"This is a lively and captivating adaptation that has a passionate voice and a clear vision...Overall, dialogue is well done... There are a lot of scenes and sequences that have a terrific flow and are very engaging..."

- Austin Film Festival

"Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a beautifully told story that sits comfortably on its strengths (characters, dialogue) and slowly and delicately welcomes us into the philosophical and almost empirical journey... there's like an aura that comes through the pages magically driving us onward, almost like the Fyre Dancer in the final act.”

"RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER is a tightly spun yarn that nails its tone, atmosphere, and world building. The characters all feel real and tangible within the story, and the descriptions and imagery are creative and well crafted...The dialogue is strong...The imagery is fantastic, as is the use of the fantastical."

Screenplay Synopsis:

Adapting the legendary poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER begins in 18th century Caribbean with three young men rushing to arrive at a wedding. Outside the wedding a mysterious elderly sailor invites one of men to listen to a terrifying tale from his days at sea. The young man is curious and agrees as two other young men attend the wedding.

The old mariner speaks of his younger self, a Caribbean man trying to make his way through the colonialized Americas. In search for purpose and a place of belonging, he is hired to work onboard a ship setting sail for trade. While the crew is familiar with each other, the young mariner finds difficulty connecting with the other sailors.

One morning, the crew wakes to realize the ship is far off course, and that a destructive storm is quickly approaching. The ship battles monstrous waves and piercing rain until it manages to escape out the other side. The rain turns to snow as the crew discover they have drifted as south as anyone had ever sailed. Floating past glaciers and through fog, the ship is pursued by an albatross. The crew quickly take to it and treat the bird with such affection that the young mariner grows jealous. During a game of sport between the crew, the young mariner suddenly strikes the Albatross with a crossbow, killing it. At first the crew is enraged but after the fog completely dissipates, it is suspected that the albatross was a bad omen. What follows is wrathful judgement.

Cursed by the mariner's crimes against nature, the ship will sit day after day, with no winds and no tides. The food will spoil and the water will rot. One by one, the men fall dead but not the young mariner. He will live on, to witness the horrors and return home to tell those who will listen...

RIME OF ANCIENT MARINER retells the classic poem; presenting a crew's perspective to the tale, exploring our protagonist's indigenous Caribbean culture and visualizing the fantastical grandeur of the epic work.

“The concept and characters in this script really shine, offering a fresh and engaging take on the vampire genre…

…the protagonists aren’t spotless heroes; they’re complex and morally ambiguous, which adds depth and keeps us guessing about where their limits might lie…

…The humor doesn’t just entertain; It’s a nuanced blend of comedy and horror that lets the audience laugh even as they feel that slight edge of unease, which makes this story compelling and memorable.”
